Course Description
- studio based course that examines traditional and alternative book structures in relationship to conceptually developed content
- course presents an overview of methods used in making handmade books
- demonstrations and discussions will introduce students to various book formats, adhesive and sewn binding structures, archival concerns and methods for generating original images and text.
- the projects will explore the interdependent relationships between form, materials and content
Course Outline
we have ten hours to work!
- there will be four book projects (four-two hour intensive workshops) to be completed as well as several structural and content sketches required
- lastly students will choose, develop and complete one book format/structure inclusive individual content/narrative for exhibition

- Workshop 1: 07. Dez. 2017 accordian books and folding
- Workshop 2: 14. Dez. 2017 Japanese stab-binding and format
- Workshop 3: 11. Jan. 2018 saddle stich and perfect binding and generating images
- Workshop 4: 18. Jan. 2018 alternative binding methods and history
- 25. Jan. 2018 individual consultations-bring sketches and structures
- 09. Feb. 2018 final projects due

- scalpel or cutter

- *paper, book cloth and binding board (purchase as you develop projects)
